Volunteer and Job opportunities

food and friendship volunteers

We rely on our staff and volunteers to run our vital services here in Thirsk and the surrounding area. Learn more about the volunteer and job opportunities we currently have available here.

Our Food and Friendship gatherings each week at The Gavel Cafe and The Pantry (alternately) have proved very popular, and we now require volunteers to help out, on a fortnightly basis. If you’re interested in helping, please call the office on 01845 523 115 or email info@thirskcommunitycare.org

Gill Burn, who looks after our adult sitting service, is looking for someone to sit with a gentleman once a week, to play cribbage and similar games. Ideally the volunteer could visit once a week, and the day/time can be flexible each week. If you or someone you know would like to help, please call Gill on 01845 523 115 or email gill.burn@thirskcommunitycare.org

Do you like talking to people? Do you have an hour a week or a fortnight spare? The Befriending Service is looking for volunteers who could give some time to provide companionship and relieve loneliness and isolation for an elderly person in your local area. The simple act of giving an hour of your time can really make a huge difference to someone’s life. Volunteers provide company in the home or help clients go out and access the community. For more information please contact alison.ballard@thirskcommunitycare.org.uk

Thirsk Community Care is urgently looking for volunteers who can support our social car scheme. Do you have a couple of hours a week to drive older people in the area to their appointments and for their shopping? You’ll be helping others to continue living active, independent and fulfilled lives.

If you think you could be part of our team of drivers and you have your own car, please call Mandy on 01845 574707 on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 10am-12noon or email carscheme@thirskcommunitycare.org.uk. We pay all expenses including mileage of 45p per mile.
